Where these figures come from

The ranges are built from typical UK prices in published price lists we reviewed in October 2026, rounded and nudged up slightly for Bristol, where parking, congestion charges in the centre and upper-floor flats add time. We do not show a council price because we could not confirm Bristol City Council's current bed bug service.

What moves the price in Bristol

Five things account for most of the difference between the low and high end of each range.

How far it has spread
One bedroom found early is at the bottom of the range. Bugs in the sofa, the children's rooms and the landing push it to the top, and can tip the choice towards heat.
The building
A third-floor flat in a converted Clifton or Cotham house with no lift and resident-only parking takes longer to work in than a semi in Brislington with a drive. Big Victorian and Georgian rooms also take longer to heat.
Clutter
Every box under the bed is a hiding place to open and treat. A cleared room is quicker, and the price often reflects it.
Neighbours
In flats and terraces, treating the shared walls and floor gaps, or coordinating with the flat next door, adds work but saves a repeat course.
Timing
Evening, weekend and same-day visits carry a premium. Most firms in Bristol can still see a home within a few days at the normal rate.

Three Bristol examples

Worked from the ranges above, to show how the pieces add up.

A one-bed flat in Bedminster

Bugs found in one bed after a holiday. An inspection confirms the bedroom only. A spray course with steam on the bed and sofa, two visits a fortnight apart.

About £320 to £500

A two-bed flat in a Redland conversion

Bites for two months and a shop spray already tried. Both bedrooms and the sofa affected. Heat in one day, a residual along the party wall, and a check visit.

About £1,050 to £1,450

A six-bed student house in Cotham

Three rooms reporting bites in October. A survey of all six rooms and the landing, then a whole-house spray course with every tenant prepping on the same day.

About £580 to £1,080, survey included

What the price covers

The ranges above assume a complete job, not a single spray.

Spray course
Two or three visits about 14 days apart. Each visit treats beds, bed bases, headboards, sofas, skirting and the furniture near them, with steam on mattresses and upholstery where it helps. A preparation list before the first visit and a call-back period after the last are normally included.
Heat treatment
A crew, heaters, fans and temperature probes for most of a day, the hold above 50°C measured inside the furniture, and a check visit two to three weeks later. Many firms add a residual dust along skirting and shared walls at no extra charge, which matters in flats.
Not usually included
Mattress and divan encasements, out-of-hours visits, treating neighbouring flats, and disposal of anything you decide to throw away. These are the extras in the table above.
Who pays in a rented home
In most Bristol lets the landlord, particularly in licensed HMOs. Council and housing association tenants report to their landlord. See the landlords and HMOs page.

Ways to keep the cost down

Act in the first few weeks. A single female bed bug lays several eggs a day, so a one-room job left for a couple of months often becomes a whole-flat job. The difference is easily £300 or more.

Skip the shop sprays. Over-the-counter sprays and foggers rarely reach the eggs and can push bugs into other rooms and next door, which turns a cheap job into an expensive one.

Do the preparation properly. Washing bedding and clothes at 60°C, drying them hot, bagging them and clearing the floor, as the NHS advises, is the single biggest reason a spray course works first time.

Keep your mattress. Treated and sealed in an encasement, a mattress is usually fine. A new one in an untreated room is just a new place for the bugs.

If you rent, report it. In most Bristol lets the landlord arranges and pays for treatment, especially in licensed HMOs. See our landlords and HMOs page.

Cost questions

How much does bed bug treatment cost in Bristol?
As a guide, a spray course costs £300 to £560 for a one-bed flat and £380 to £760 for a three-bed house. Heat costs £720 to £1,150 and £1,050 to £1,750 for the same homes. All figures include VAT.
Why is heat so much dearer than spraying?
A heat day ties up a crew, several heaters and a van for most of a day, and uses a lot of power. A spray visit takes an hour or two. Heat makes up for it by finishing in one visit with no preparation of clothes.
Does Bristol City Council treat bed bugs?
Check the council pest control page for the current position and price. We could not confirm a current council bed bug service, so we do not quote one. Council and housing association tenants should report through their landlord first.
Is the inspection fee extra?
It is usually charged at £65 to £130, and often taken off the treatment price if you book with the same specialist.
Will I pay for a third visit if bugs come back?
Most courses include a follow-up and a call-back period. Ask how long that is and what it covers before you book, so a third visit within the guarantee costs nothing.
Can I save money by treating one room?
Only if an inspection shows the other rooms are clear. Treating one room of several is the most common way to end up paying twice.
